Would Charlie have done everything he ended up doing without Alex’s influence and without Alex’s encouragement? The boy rests silently for a minute or two and then suddenly he laughs against Mike’s shoulder. “After you told me about Charlie? I did that same thing to him. A couple of days ago.”

“Which thing?”
